Iceland 2014 (AGAIN)
Howdy! Well, well, well, back to Iceland for the second time this year, yet the first time in Summer! After every visit (always in Winter), I always told myself to go back in Summer, as you can see and do very different things. Whale watching is at its peak during Summertime, and the Puffins are there, and the possiblilty of doing things and stuff widens... Particularly up North, as the peak summer season lasts only from Mid-june until the end of August. That's more or less 10 weeks to get off yer arse and do stuff.
So I enjoyed a 10 day and 10 no-night stint in Iceland (mostly North) of Puffin-watching, Whale-watching, Ice caving, volcano hiking and enjoying a steady diet of fresh seafood and Icelandic beer. Nice(landic)!
ABOVE: The Ice cave of Lofthellir, which is in the vacinity of Mývatn, a large lake in the North of Iceland. Now then, Mývatn translates as 'Midge Lake' (Mý meaning Midge, and vatn meaning water or in this case lake)... And that should be your first clue as to what to expect... MIDGE BASTARDS! Dozens and dozens of the buggers flying around your face at any random moment. The picture(BELOW) captures a little bit of this: See 'em? Dirty blighters! Of course, the locals are all aware of this, and most of 'em wear face nets, which, thankfully, you can purchase locally for several hundred Icelandic Kronur. Gimp recommends you purchase one, as there are thousands upon thousands of midges close to the Lake. You have been warned!
