You have to hand it to the French. Their cultural output over time is incredible, and is of a very high quality. Musically, at least, I believe it peaked during the 1960s. Serge Gainsbourg was king, and everything in a mini-skirt was part of the infamous yé yé (60s pop) scene. These compilations celebrate the time in and around the 60s cultural explosion, covering yé yé, soundtrack music for avand-garde cinema & traditional chanson. It was a prolific creative period indeed, and my heart is truly appreciative of 60s music & cinema of that period.
