This DVD is essentially a play that was filmed over a series of consecutive nights in 2007. The filmed version has a few added audio & visual effects, notably fake film grain, and irritating audio 'hum'. This makes the whole thing look & sound like grindhouse comic strip, which I'm sure was exactly the desired effect.
Writer & Director Jörg Buttgereit has alot of fun with his fantasy/comic strip satire, and it works really well. It reminds me of those 'What If...?' comics of the 1970s (and beyond); 'What if Tony Stark didn't become an alcoholic?' or 'What if Superman wasn't a tight-wearing fag'? All good, clean harmless fun. Captain Berlin is, at times, hilarious, and the cast are marvellous. Good job all 'round!
The German-released DVD has a limited number that come with an exclusive Captain Berlin versus Hitler dog-tag! Wear it! Impress your friends or elderly relatives!
