Torso aka Carnal Violence (Sergio Martino, 1973)
"BITCHES! BITCHES!!!"
Easily one of the most predictable giallos out there, Sergio Martino's 1973 sleaze-fest turns to titillating terror & slashing gore instead of a decent story. Now i'm not saying that's a negative, oh no, but Torso really does resemble nothing more that soft-porn at times. And what a cast of lovely ladies!
The story here is entirely superfluous, but it involves a bunch of beautiful young students who slowly get hacked off one by one. Those that are left go on holiday to a remote village, where the locals have clearly never seen such lovely creatures before!
Martino was always a director relient on slashing, bloody nudity, and Torso is a prime example of giallo sleaze. Smashing... or should that be slashing. Also, lovely English lady Suzy Kendall has the lead role! Hurrah!
What follows is black gloved (of course) murders, lesbotic lust, dubbed dirty old men, and bloody paranoid beauties screaming their way through the film. There's also a fantastic 'hippies in a warehouse' scene, which typifies the random oddities Italian sleaze cinema served up during the early 70s. The first hour is especially sweet. An above average, but highly entertaining giallo.
