Oasis Of Fear aka An Ideal Place To Kill aka Dirty Pictures (Umberto Lenzi, 1971)
"Dick! I think I've got it!"
Dick (Ray Lovelock, below) & Ingrid (an astonishingly baby-faced Ornella Muti) are a pretty pair. They're young, crazy, kooky and in love. Well, kind of in love. They cannot walk through life, no. They have to run everywhere! Running and laughing and romping and smiling.
Soon after visiting Copenhagen & Pisa, they end up getting robbed... so sad. To earn some money 'Ingrid' (we're supposed to believe sex-pop Muti is German!) takes nude pictures of herself in order to sell 'em for cash. Men find her irresistible, see... and no wonder; she's hot to trot!
Anyhoo, eventually they're wanted by the cops, and they run out of petrol near a (wait for it) Oasis. Well, this oasis has a woman living there (the excellent Irene Papas, who gets top billing), who is behaving very oddly indeed. What could be going on?!
What follows next is boozy, sexy, strangey (not a word), swingy and mind gamey. Gialli? And, as is usual with 'these types of films' we have random musical interludes where everybody dances to a 70s groove. The cool music was by Bruno Lauzi, that said, some of the vocal tracks are awful!
The film is a fairly typical example of an early 70s sex/romp/giallo type of film. Many, many of which were made in Italy during this period. Lovelock is always a pleasure to see, he must've had a ball during this period of time. And, of course, the delicious Ornella Muti is one of the most beautiful women on the planet. She was only sixteen years old in this, one of her very first films. Down, goatboy, down! That would explain the body double, then.
In 2020, the year it all turned to shit, those splendid fellows at 'Mondo Macabro' have released this film on Blu-ray! And I must say the video quality is really excellent. Superb even! The video quality on the UK shameless DVD was absolutely appalling, but it was better than nothing at the time. Mondo Macabro's release poops all over it, and seeing Worldwidegimp favourite Muti in HD again is tremendous. A beautiful release of a silly film.
Jeepers creepers! What a wonderful view that horse has! No wonder he's smiling!
