French Sex Murders (Ferdinando Merighi, 1972)
"Massage?! Of course, massage!" (wink, wink)
Dick Randall was a premier producer of exploitative sleaze. If a genre of film was popular, then Randall would produce his own take on it just to make a quick buck. I said buck. 'Bandwagonesque', yes, that was Randall, and this 1972 film is Randall's take on the Italian giallo genre. It is chock-full of titillating, exploitative sleaze, and all the better for it.
The French Sex murders is set in -HEY!- Paris, and begins in a boudoir. Nice. Antoine is in the boudoir causing trouble, and as he is scarred he simply MUST be evil. One of the girls is murdered, and Antoine is the prime suspect.
Robert Sacchi was a professional Humphrey Bogart look-alike, and here he plays Inspector Fontaine, who arrests Antoine, and then gets killed in a random yet grisly manner. Antoine believes he was set up for the 'moider', and vows revenge... From the next life! Blimey.
A bevy of beauties grace the screen for this euro sleaze-fest... Anita Ekberg, Rosabella Neri, the very delicious Evelyn Kraft and the stunning Barbera Bouchet! The groovy music by Bruno Nicolai is also very, very good, and the story itself is daft but highly entertaining. The production values are much higher than I expected. One of the most entertaining soft-porn giallo films out there.
