They Charge An Arm & A Leg!
Ahhhh, the quintessential grindhouse classic. Set in L.A, and told from the point of view of a private detective (cue lots of 'dick' jokes), Jack Chandler is on the hunt for a missing girl. Right, that's the story out the way!
Well... perhaps there's another part of the story where hookers are slicing & dicing punters to a grisly death... perhaps not the climax they were expecting. Indeed, The private dick uncovers an Egyptian chain saw cult, led by no ther than Gunnar Hanson (for those that don't know, he played leatherface in the Texas Chain Saw Massacre).
Scream Queen Linnea Quigley (above) is the missing 'girl' (girl my arse, she's pushing 30 when the film was made), and a truly fabulous Michelle Bauer (below, credited as Michelle McLellan) as a chain saw wielding lunatic hooker!
Olen Ray & T.L Lanckford's script is hilarious, and lifts this sleazy gem well above the usual Grindhouse trash. The cast are also spot on, and check out Quigley's superb 'virgin dance of the double chainsaws'. Super!
Ideally watched right after the 1973 version of The Wicker Man, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers is a bona fide sleaze masterpiece.
