May 2011. This compilation fell into place without me really thinking about it. It's less funky, but more jazzy, moody, and has an 1980s feel to it toward the end. Some of these tunes may be too cheesy, and way too eighties for certain peoples' tastes, but Brian Bennett's Solstice makes me believe I'm in an early Luc Besson film, swanking around on the set of The Big Blue with dodgy hair and swimming trunks a little bit too tight. Just listen to it with closed eyes and a clenched fist, and really feel it. Feel the sound, yes.
Some of the tracks here have been sampled by those pesky rappers; Under Pressure was robbed by Mark B & Blade, and appears on their album 'The Unknown', which is one of the finest rap albums ever to surface from the UK. Franco Micalizzi's Affanno is a bona fide legend of a soundtrack, one of those LPs which always fetch a ludicrous price on eBay, due to its lack of availability. That said, a CD re-issue finally appeared a couple of years ago, and about bloody time too!
Jack Mayborn's Music People is a library tune that rips-off the original Rocky theme. And as for the Driving track, I've not a clue who composed that one, or indeed, where it came from! I must just mention that Denis King's Regan's Theme was for the pilot show that was a preface for The Sweeney. Legendary.
