Erick & Parish Minimal Drinkers
Back in 2005, I was in an Irish pub in the centre of Amsterdam. All I wanted was a pint of Guinness and a seat. However, the bar was playing absolutely dreadful music (Phil Collins & that black dude's Easy Lover,
for example... very f*cking Irish). As is customary in situations like this, I 'went into one'. I began thinking of an EPMD track Strictly Business (from the album, erm, Strictly Business) to take my mind away from what was really playing.
For those that don't know, all of EPMDs albums have the word 'Business' in the title. With that in mind,
I began staring at all the old 'Guinness' advertising signs dotted around the bar... y'know the ones...➔➔➔
It was at that point I somehow got the idea of replacing the word 'business' in EPMD titles, with the word 'Guinness'.
That gave me a chuckle. Especially 'Guinness never personal' (which is a lie. It's always personal).
Below is a list of EPMD albums and the covers... and remember, replace business with Guinness!
1988 Strictly Business
1989 Unfinished Business
1990 Business as Usual
1992 Business Never Personal
1997 Back in Business
1999 Out of Business
2008 We Mean Business
In terms of 'Guiness-swapping' (like wife-swapping, but with less cream), I think their latest album is perhaps the least funny, whilst the 1999 album title is by far the saddest :(
EPMD are Erick Sermon & Parrish Smith. I always found Erick's rapping style humourous, because of it's lack of coherance. Because of this, I call him 'Sloppy Erick'. It suits him. Check out the cover of Unfinished guin- sorry - business, where the boys are showing off their cars whilst still dressed in their pyjamas. Hardcore!
Stricly Business is one of the greatest Rap albums of all time. In fact, those first four albums are all good, and should be in every Rap-Hop collection. "I'm as deadly as AIDS when it's time to rock the party" chirps Parrish on Strictly Business. That's one party I'd happily miss.
