Mister Martin Carr
Martin Carr is a genius. Mr Carr, for those that don't know, was the drunken poet/noise machine for 'The Boo Radleys', or the 'Do Badleys' as they were known in and around Liverpoolshire. The Boos were and forever shall remain one of the most under-rated bands of the 1990s, remembered as a bunch of one-hit wonders with their 1995 hit 'Wake up Boo!' and erm, nothing else. Bummer.
The Boos decided to call it a day in 1998, just as their sixth album 'Kingsize' was about to be released. It was a great album, but nobody really paid any money nor any attention towards it, or the fact that the Boo's were now finished.
18 months later, Mr Carr washed up in Cardiff, under the guise of 'BraveCaptain'. A total of 4 albums were released on the 'Wichita' label between 2000-2004, then Martin decided to go it alone with a series of 12 singles, and his (free) download-only album 'Distractions' in 2006... all via his website. Alas, the money wasn't coming in, and in November 2006 BraveCaptain played his final gig, then killed-off his nom de guerre once and for all.
These compilations are a tribute to the one-man band, a tribute to his noisy electronic mentalist mash-ups, and a tribute to one of the finest poets in the business. If I would be critical of anything, it would be he rather flat voice, but I'm nit-picking...
