I first saw the Northern lights several years ago -above the bay of Reykjavik as it happened- but I never got any pictoral proof of that event. So, armed with a mid-range digital camera & a tripod, I ventured out to an area near Grindavík -I could see the blue lagoon from where I was- to see some Aurora action. The green band of light came back & forth over several hours, but the reallly amazing action happened very very quickly... So quickly I couldn't capture it on camera. The shutter speed for night shots is about 7 or 8 seconds. That was roughly how long the red, purple and green lights lasted. Streaming into Earth's atmosphere like a lava lamp. It was amazing, but over too quickly. These pictures aren't spectacular, but it's nice to finally have some evidence of the phenomenom. After all, it's taken five years to get some kind of half-decent proof! These were taken 8th February 2014. It was -2ºC.
