Christ on a bike! Architect Zurab Tsereteli's work emphasises one thing: SIZE. BIG is clearly BEST in Zurab's world. This is a big problem for me, as two of his major works in Moscow are too MASSIVE for their own good. The catherdal of Christ the Saviour (below) just about gets away with it. The Interior (no photo's allowed, what a shocker) is grandiose, garish yet still impressive. And you can see it no matter where you are in Moscow (unless you're buried underground of course). Close by, his enormous sculpture of Peter the Great (bottom) is just plain ugly. Muscovites despise this carbuncle and it's easy to see why: It's too big, too ugly, pointless and costly. Size isn't everything after all. This drab statue of Peter the Great proves this.
Peter
Ugly Peter!
