Just imagine the look on my face when I haphazardly stumbled upon this titanic mass of USSR memorabilia. This was a symbol of the old Soviet dream, an "exhibition of achievements of the national economy". Some of these 'achievements' have been barren for years… Left to rot. Now kids race go-karts around the feet of Lenin (BELOW). Do they even know who he was? Do they care? Even on a sunny day in June, this place was more like a ghost town.
What a testament to Russia's monolithic past this exhibition is, and how ironic that it symbolises the death of the Soviet dream machine, instead turned into a tacky, unpopular theme park with tatty markets and empty refreshment tents. What a place!
ABOVE: Stupid place to park. A bit random this, leaving a plane and a rocket in the middle of a park... How odd. BELOW: The view of the exhibition centre from the TV tower.
