May 2011. Why are all the best art exhibitions in Paris? Because they care, dammit! Anyhoo, this time around I visited the Kubrick exposition at La Cinémathèque Française. Interesting that they went for a picture of Malcolm McDowell for the poster. I suppose A Clockwork Orange is still iconic. As a matter of fact, this exhibition was originally created in Frankfurt in 2004. This Parisian version is part of a wider Kubrick retrospective, with a French cinematic re-release of A Clockwork Orange (premiering at Cannes 2011), and a cinematic retrospective of all Kubrick films, and a re-issue of Kubrick films on DVD and Blu-ray! 2011 is the year of Kubrick... in France, that is. Phew. No pictures were allowed inside the Cinémateque, but some interesting exterior pics were taken all the same.

ABOVE: La Cinémathèque Française was designed by Frank Gehry, which is remarkably similar to his glorious Guggenheim museum in Bilbao. I've got some pictures of Bilbao, which I'll upload some time in the future. This building is more like a brick version of the Guggenheim. Very nice. BELOW: The front of the Cinémathèque. Now then, the Cinémathèque holds a large archive of work by photographer Eadweard Muybridge, and in the windows are large reproductions of animated photographs taken by the great man. Check out the mysterious figure in white who is reflected in the glass in exactly the same pose as the Muybridge model! Spoooky.
