Now then... in 710 AD the capital city of Heijo ('citadel of peace') was established as the capital of Japan. This idea was based on China's imperial city, and today Heijo is known as Nara. Below are pictures of the area surrounding the Kofuku-ji temple, and of the enormous five-storey pagoda. Nara is also littered with deer, who, to be honest, are driven only by the desire to eat. I had never encountered deer this close before, and I never realised how dumb they really are. Dumber than cows. And just as stinky.
Rain, deer. In Nara. Oh deer, there I go again. Ahem, the pagoda... spring blossom, and rain. What a mixture.
BOTTOM RIGHT: Deer are so dumb, they believe that children are little pink snacks. See here a frightened child as the elders cackle hysterically! Bad deer, naughty deer!
