Alright! My favourite pictures from 2002 were all from Asakusa, which is famous for the Sensō-ji (sensoji, if you can't read that properly), a Buddist temple in an area with smaller temples, a beautiful five-story pagoda, and the Nakamise shopping arcade selling assorted tat. I really liked Asakusa in general though, it seemed more of a working class district to me...Anyhoo, we'll start in and around the streets of Asakusa before heading toward the temple, okay?
Ah yes, these buildings are the HQ of Asahi Beer. Asahi Bīru Kabushiki Gaisha, to be precise. The one to the right with the golden flame is the Asahi super-dry hall. The left-side building is the normal HQ. The golden flame itself was designed by French designer Philippe Stark, and is called the 'Flamme d’Or', but the locals call it, erm, 'The Golden Turd'. No, really! I think it's meant as a term of back-handed affection. Actually... the have a point. LEFT: 2002 style, and ABOVE is 2010 style. Notice to the left of Asahi HQ, they're building a new erection! I'm not sure what the building will house when finished. Looks nice, though.
Eeeeee, we're getting closer now. The picture on the right will take you to the Senso-ji temple page.
